Bark Botany

The body of a tree reflects the human form in many ways, the bark of an oak tree with its callouses and folds. Our relationship with trees is as magical and oftentimes fraught as our relationship with all of nature. When we look at the bark of a tree we are witnessing a narrative of all that tree has experienced from seed to sapling to grand canopy. The peeling cork reveals to us the pathways of burrowing bugs and a spectrum of colors and textures. This series puts into elegant contrast the body and skin of a tree, inviting the viewer into a contemplative state.
